We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Signs Technician to join our team at the City of College Station. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of city signs, including regulatory, warning, and guide signs.
Key Responsibilities- Fabricate, install, maintain, and repair traffic-related devices, including signs and pavement markings.
- Track inventory for traffic-related devices and maintain supplies and equipment.
- Inspect traffic signs and perform maintenance to bring deficient signs up to current standards and regulations.
- Assist in the installation of overhead signs on signal mast arms as needed.
- Install and maintain pavement markings, including preparing sites for markings and performing pavement marking procedures.
- Set up traffic work zones, including traffic barricades, cone transition lanes, and traffic warning signs.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year of experience with computers or additional technical training in a field related to area of assignment.
- One year of experience related to area of assignment, such as traffic work zone setup and operating power tools.
- Valid Class C driver's license issued by the State of Texas.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD).
- Ability to obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level I Certification within one year of hire.
- Ability to respond after hours to emergencies.
- Availability and willingness to work rotation schedule for Standby and On-Call after hour support.

Work is performed in an outside environment in which incumbents are required to utilize hand tools, post hole diggers, gasoline powered auger, gas powered striping machine, propane heat torch, and may be exposed to physical hazards, health and safety risks while working in and around moving/high speed vehicular and high volume pedestrian traffic.
Routine work assignments typically involve working in extreme weather conditions; heat, rain, and frigid temperatures for an extended period of time.
