Overview
This is a temporary hourly position.
Under the supervision of a designated manager, carry out standard custodial tasks at a designated educational facility or other District locations; ensure that buildings and surrounding grounds are maintained in a clean, organized, and secure manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individuals in the Janitorial Services Associate role perform a range of standard cleaning duties to uphold the cleanliness and safety of assigned educational facilities.
Core Duties
Execute routine cleaning tasks at an assigned educational facility during day or evening shifts; sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors; vacuum carpets and rugs in classrooms, offices, and other areas; spot clean and shampoo carpets as necessary.
Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, lounges, offices, and other facilities as directed; empty waste containers; spot mop and clean spills; remove debris and graffiti as required.
Sanitize drinking fountains and restroom facilities including sinks, toilets, and urinals; restock dispensers with towels, soap, toilet paper, and other supplies; clean mirrors, tiles, and windows.
Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean chalkboards and erasers; empty pencil sharpeners.
Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and woodwork; perform minor repairs to furniture as needed.
Secure and unlock doors and gates as appropriate; maintain the security of assigned areas according to established protocols; set and deactivate alarms as necessary.
Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the appropriate authority; notify the need for maintenance repairs; respond to urgent custodial requests as needed.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment; prepare classrooms, gyms, and multi-purpose rooms for special events or meetings; set up chairs, tables, bleachers, and other furniture and equipment for events; clean up furniture and debris following these events.
Utilize custodial equipment such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines, blowers, and other equipment.
Participate in the thorough cleaning and restoration of campus facilities during designated periods as assigned.
Perform minor grounds maintenance tasks as assigned.
Carry out related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to: at least six months of relevant experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of:
Proper methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in modern custodial practices.
Contemporary cleaning methods including basic procedures for cleaning floors, blackboards, carpets, furniture, walls, and fixtures.
Proper methods for storing equipment, materials, and supplies.
Requirements for maintaining District buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Proper lifting techniques.
Ability to:
Perform standard custodial activities at an assigned educational facility.
Maintain District buildings and surrounding grounds in a clean, organized, and secure condition.
Utilize cleaning materials and equipment safely and efficiently.
Operate various custodial equipment, such as vacuums, mops, small hand and power tools, buffer/scrubber machines.
Keep tools and equipment in clean working order.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
Observe and report safety hazards and maintenance needs.
Perform minor non-technical repairs.
Understand and execute oral and written instructions.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Collaborate effectively with others.
Meet the essential physical requirements of this role, including the ability to lift at least 75 pounds.
Successful completion of a fitness for duty physical including drug screening.
