Job Summary

This position is located at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The incumbent will assist with all interment activities, headstone, building maintenance, and the maintenance of the cemetery's complete inventory of vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with all interment activities, including digging graves, preparing grave sites, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Maintain the cemetery's inventory of vehicles and equipment, including performing routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Contribute to the overall quality of cemetery grounds maintenance by observing and reporting problems with contractor grounds maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine activities related to the core mission of the cemetery, including interments, preventative building and equipment maintenance, and repairs.
  • Operate one or more types of heavy equipment with multiple hand and foot controls, such as a backhoe, to dig, push, pull, pile, and load earth.
Work Schedule

May be required to work Monday through Friday, including occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time.

Staff may be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally, staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Your background must demonstrate work involved in the operation of heavy equipment with foot and hand controls, performing preventative maintenance on equipment, excavating earth composed of rock, sand, and/or clay, and using web-based computer programs.

A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.
