Job Summary

The Aquatic Safety Specialist is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the pool deck, and surrounding areas. This role requires creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
  • Know, understand, and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions.
  • Perform chemical testing on pools and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of lifeguard staff training.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to lifeguards on a daily basis.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • 1-2 years of lifeguard experience required, along with previous experience in personal development and supervision of staff.
  • Must obtain certifications through the YMCA in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification required upon hire.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
