Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team at Petco. As an essential member of our animal care team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional care to our furry friends and their owners.

  • This position involves providing top-notch veterinary care to patients and outstanding customer service to pet owners.
  • You will represent the mission and values of Petco to all clients and partners, setting the tone for our technical and customer support teams.
Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet clients and patients, escort them into exam rooms, obtain vital signs, and begin documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia procedures under direct supervision.
  • Perform patient restraint, collect laboratory samples, handle medications, and maintain electronic medical records.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results, update inventory, and manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, monitor vital parameters during anesthesia, and provide post-operative care.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments, keep patients clean and comfortable, and perform general hospital maintenance duties.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A college degree or equivalent education as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state where the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassion and empathy to maintain a professional attitude in emotional situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • A willingness to learn new techniques, offer creative ideas, and adapt to change.
Work Environment

This role is based in a busy Vetco Total Care full-service hospital, requiring standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and direct contact with clients and pets.

Estimated Salary Range

$55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
