Job Title: Detention Deputy

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Detention Deputy. As a Detention Deputy, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of detainees, the public, and other law enforcement personnel. You will also be responsible for coordinating and monitoring inmate movements, conducting counts, and providing emergency response as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain order over detainees and take appropriate action to ensure their safety and security.
  • Conduct searches to detect concealed weapons and contraband.
  • Place detainees in cells and issue cleaning/sanitation supplies.
  • Escort detainees to and from cells for court appearances, medical treatment, visitation, religious services, conferences, release, and other activities.
  • Comply with booking and release orders and procedures.
  • Pick up mail and commissary orders and inspect incoming mail and packages for contraband and other non-permitted items.
  • Supervise detainee work details in and out of the facility or during recreational activities.
  • Maintain accurate counts of detainees and complete records.
  • Participate in classification of new detainees and make cell assignments.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding status of detainees, visiting procedures, and other related detention facility procedures.
  • Secure detention facility keys and receive status and incident reports and special instructions from other detention personnel.
  • Operate an agency vehicle when appropriate to area of assignment.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 19 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Division of Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • PAT (Physical Agility Test).
