Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Monitoring Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our environmental monitoring team, you will be responsible for gathering and analyzing water samples from various sources, including streams, waterways, and industrial waste discharges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sample Collection and Analysis: Gather and collect water samples using manual or automatic sampling devices, and analyze them using specialized equipment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and operate Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) generator trailer units, analytical meters, and other specialized groundwater monitoring devices.
  • Data Interpretation: Analyze and interpret collected field data to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Logistics and Record-Keeping: Fill out log sheets on samples, record observations of visible qualities of the liquid sample, and maintain depth reading log sheets.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee the work of Pollution Control Technician I crew members and provide guidance and support as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.
  • Experience: One year of experience as a water sampler, laboratory assistant, or laboratory technician.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to Perform Physical Demands: Ability to perform all principal requirements of the job, including lifting heavy objects.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately record information regarding samples.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
