Job Summary

As a Building Inspector with the City of Rosemount, MN, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of construction practices and the ability to interpret and enforce local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site inspections of buildings and construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Review and interpret plans and specifications to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Enforce zoning and subdivision ordinances and assist the Chief Building Official as directed.
  • Assist architects, builders, contractors, developers, homeowners, engineers, and the general public with code-related inquiries and provide guidance on code compliance requirements.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry Building Official Limited certification or higher.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of a post-secondary school in law enforcement, public administration, housing, construction, planning, or a related field.
  • Mechanical and/or plumbing experience.
  • Experience in commercial and industrial construction.
  • Experience with commercial or residential plan review.

Working Conditions

This position requires occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and may involve standing, walking, sitting, speaking, or hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and repetitive motions. Work may also involve exposure to wet, humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold or heat, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
