Position Overview

The Shell Norco facility is actively seeking skilled operators to join our team. The Operational Process Specialist is tasked with overseeing, regulating, and executing functions related to unit operations and equipment upkeep. This role requires the ability to identify and implement corrective measures to maintain compliance with Shell Norco's safety, environmental, and operational protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere strictly to Norco's safety regulations, taking prompt action in response to potential hazards or unsafe practices.
  • Conduct operations with a focus on environmental responsibility and within authorized limits.
  • Facilitate effective shift transitions through comprehensive written and verbal communication regarding routine and exceptional operational matters.
  • Perform detailed inspections utilizing both sensory and electronic monitoring tools, documenting, analyzing, escalating, and rectifying any irregularities encountered.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with team members and other departments (Utilities, Logistics, etc.).
  • Collaborate professionally with all team members, taking personal responsibility for upholding Shell Norco's standards of continuous personal and professional growth.
  • Execute necessary preventative maintenance, assist in diagnosing potential issues, and provide support during unit malfunctions.
  • Ensure safe working conditions for colleagues by adhering to all Norco safety protocols.
  • Prepare equipment safely and in accordance with site guidelines for maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize personal computers and mobile devices effectively to meet daily operational expectations and access relevant plant and unit information.
  • Engage in training and respond to emergency situations as required.
  • Comply with all Norco policies and procedures diligently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in work areas through proper housekeeping practices.
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of assigned group tasks and meetings.
  • Collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, and other team members to identify and resolve abnormal conditions, routine maintenance challenges, and planned maintenance activities.
  • Accurately collect samples from the unit, conduct analyses in unit laboratories, and monitor product specifications.
  • Console operators will be responsible for tracking process variables and adjusting unit conditions for optimization, comprehending complex control systems, monitoring product specifications, and responding to alarms in accordance with the Ensure Safe Production guidelines.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Effective communication skills to understand processes and interact with colleagues and clients.
  • Proficiency in using a process computer interface to manage and control operational processes.
  • Preferred: 5 years of relevant experience as a Process Operator in the Oil, Gas, or Chemical sector.
  • Preferred: At least three years of recent experience as a Process/Production Operator in a catalyst, petrochemical, or refining environment, or military experience.
  • Preferred: Formal education or training related to production operations or a related field.
  • Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Preferred: Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting training, experience, and/or certification.
  • Willingness to complete Shell's pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Commitment to a drug-free workplace, including random drug screenings.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. safely and utilize proper lifting techniques.
  • Willingness to work at heights, climb ladders and stairs, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Availability to be on call and respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.
  • Commitment to Shell's safety policies and practices.
  • Proficiency in using computers as part of daily operations.
  • Support for Shell's teamwork and inclusive work environment.
