Job Responsibilities:The Iron Worker/Rigger will be responsible for the following:
- Setting up hoisting apparatus and placing structural steel components, utilizing basic rigging techniques.
- Securing steel components to hoisting cables using chains, ropes, or cables.
- Communicating with operators of hoisting equipment to facilitate the lifting and positioning of steel components.
- Guiding components into place using tag lines.
- Adjusting the position of steel components while they are supported by hoisting devices.
- Utilizing tools such as turnbuckles, crowbars, and jacks to finalize positioning of steel members.
- Aligning bolt holes in steel components with drift pins or spud wrenches.
- Ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bobs and levels, and temporarily securing members until they can be permanently fastened.
- Cutting and welding steel components for modifications using oxyacetylene equipment.
- Handling the loading, transporting, and unloading of materials and tools.
- Assisting in the positioning and securing of materials during installation.
- Performing routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Adhering to all safety regulations and project guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Minimum of 6 months of documented experience in the field.
- Ability to interpret technical documents and instructions.
- Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts to solve practical problems.
- Capability to plan work and select appropriate tools.
- Attention to detail in comparing sizes, shapes, and forms.
- Ability to visualize solid objects from diagrams.
- Competence in evaluating information against measurable standards.
The physical requirements for this position include:
- Regularly required to communicate effectively.
- Frequent use of hands and arms for handling tools and equipment.
- Occasional standing, walking, climbing, and balancing.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities including close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with relevant experience in the field. Familiarity with standard concepts and practices within the industry is essential. The role typically operates under direct supervision, with primary functions not requiring independent judgment.
