About the Role

Fika Midwifery is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in providing exceptional care to our clients in the community birth setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support midwifery model care in the community birth setting, directly assisting the midwife in caring for clients during prenatal, labor, postpartum, and newborn care.
  • Maintain clinical responsibilities that facilitate smooth operation of the birth center, including result normal labs & ultrasounds, answer portal messages, and assist with statistics keeping.
  • Conduct prenatal care visits in accordance with scope of practice in NYS and communicate prenatal data to the midwife in a timely manner.
  • Provide labor support, set up the room for birth, monitor vital signs and fetal heart tones, assist with resuscitation, and administer medications as directed by the CNM.
  • Assist with ongoing assessment of postpartum person and newborn, provide postpartum education, assist with discharge home, and schedule follow-up postpartum appointments.
Requirements
  • Nursing license in NYS
  • Background check
  • Physical ability to carry birth equipment up and down stairs, clean up after birth, and squat, bend, and reach to accommodate the woman's chosen laboring positions
  • Technical skills to perform basic charting functions
  • NRP certification
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • Belief in midwifery model of care, out of hospital birth, physiologic birth, and breastfeeding
  • Experience in labor & delivery or neonatal nursing
