Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses succeed. Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto.

About the Role:

As a Product Infrastructure Engineer on our Ruby/Rails team, you'll work on developer productivity improvements at the core of the language and framework we use for our main applications.

You'll ensure our applications are up-to-date, use an effective architecture to solve our business challenges, and maintain smooth build systems.

About the Team:

The Product Infrastructure team at Gusto focuses on Developer Productivity. We strive to improve it through our work on tools, systems, and organizational processes that drive engineering work.

We hire technical experts who take a broad view of engineering-focused impact and love lifting up their colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Seek out and solve opportunities and inefficiencies in tooling, APIs, and feedback mechanisms available to product engineers to improve developer productivity.
  2. Ideate solutions, and then pitch, plan, measure, and implement them in an iterative fashion.
  3. Maintain close connections with product engineering colleagues to see the next change around the corner.
  4. Create leverage for all of product engineering through your work on services, abstractions, and architecture.
  5. Collaborate with other technical infrastructure engineering teams, product development teams, data science, operations, product management, and design teams to lead and own developing end-to-end product experiences for complex customer needs from initial planning, execution, to final delivery.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience with software development and architecture using Ruby/Rails.
  • Experience and/or interest in building tooling that makes engineering colleagues successful.
  • Experience in Ruby, Rails, architecture, developer tooling, asynchronous processing, and agile and lean software development.

What We Offer:

We offer a competitive cash compensation package, with a targeted range of $165,000/yr to $185,000/yr in Denver & most remote locations, and $200,000/yr to $220,000/yr for San Francisco, New York & Seattle. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

We have physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

We're an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from diverse candidates. We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic.
