Position Title: Circulation Clerk I
Grade Level: 3
Classification: Bargaining; non-exempt
Immediate Supervisor: Circulation Services Manager or designated representative
Core Responsibilities:
Circulation Clerks engage with the public, providing essential customer service while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude. This role involves a variety of standard circulation and clerical tasks utilizing the Library's integrated software in a dynamic environment, often requiring multi-tasking capabilities. The position may be either full-time or part-time, depending on the library's operational needs.
Key Duties Include:
- Facilitating circulation and borrowing services for patrons, including check-ins, check-outs, holds, renewals, and sorting materials.
- Interpreting library loan policies and procedures for patrons.
- Assisting patrons with searches and placing holds; directing reference inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Performing clerical tasks for various departments, such as searching patron and circulation records.
- Resolving patron issues related to fines, fees, and overdue materials, escalating complex matters as necessary.
- Responding to patron inquiries in person and via phone, including processing requests and renewals.
- Managing cash register operations and providing fax services for patrons.
- Inspecting and processing audio-visual materials for circulation.
- Maintaining an organized and tidy workspace.
- Participating in relevant meetings and training sessions as required.
Essential Qualifications:
• Strong communication skills
• A friendly and diplomatic approach, with enthusiasm for public interaction
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform routine tasks
• Capacity to learn library methods and utilize computerized databases
• Basic keyboarding skills
• Proficiency in multi-tasking within a fast-paced environment
• Physical ability to handle library materials and equipment

• Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to service excellence
Educational Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience in public service is preferred. A valid driver's license may be necessary.
