Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Chief Engineer, the HVAC Maintenance Technician is responsible for:

  • Performing maintenance and repairs on HVAC units, systems, and other engineering equipment.
  • Being available on-call 24/7 for emergencies and necessary watch coverage.
  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing HVAC units and associated equipment, including window AC units, refrigeration units, boilers, and control devices.
  • Conducting general maintenance tasks, such as responding to service calls for plumbing, lighting, and hardware issues.
  • Inspecting and repairing life safety systems and equipment as assigned.

Management Responsibilities
This position does not involve supervision or oversight of other staff.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent and have a minimum of four years of experience in general maintenance or construction, with at least three years in HVAC, plumbing, painting, or electrical trades. A valid driver's license is required.

Candidates must obtain specific FDNY Certificates of Fitness during their probationary period, including:

  • (F-01) City-wide Fire Guard for Impairment
  • (F-60) Fire Guard for Torch Operations
  • (G-60) Torch Use of Flammable Gases for Hot Work Operations

Knowledge and Skills
Applicants should be able to read and comprehend English instructions.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in painting and plastering is advantageous.

Salary Information
The minimum biweekly salary for new employees is $2,472, with a maximum of $3,090.
