Job Title: Mohs Technician

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a highly skilled Mohs Technician to join our team.

About the Role:

The Mohs Technician will assist the physician during Mohs surgery, preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation and review by the Mohs Surgeon.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the physician during Mohs surgery, ensuring accurate preparation and processing of histologic specimens.
  • Collaborate with Dermatopathologists, Surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to contribute to the overall success of Mohs surgeries.
  • Maintain accurate patient identification on all containers, slides, diagrams, and paperwork at all times.
  • Conduct staining procedures on tissue samples to facilitate accurate visualization of skin cancers on microscope slides.
  • Operate laboratory and surgical equipment, including cryostat and stain line, and ensure preventative maintenance is performed.
  • Maintain the Mohs laboratory according to CLIA and OSHA standards.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of lab supplies and equipment, receiving and verifying laboratory shipments to ensure accuracy, quantity, and quality of stock.
Requirements:
  • High school degree (or GED) required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant program through an accredited school or program that meets the criteria of a medical assistant program, such as a military-prepared corpsman or medic.
  • Associate or Bachelor in an Applied Science program preferred.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • At least 6 months of full-time experience in the past 10 years in Mohs surgery as Mohs Medical Assistant, Mohs Technician, or Histology Technician required.

The ideal candidate will be able to maintain a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning, and continuing education opportunities.
