Western Construction is currently in search of enthusiastic candidates to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator within our crushing sector. This role involves direct reporting to the supervisor and requires the safe and effective operation of various heavy machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a secure work environment that adheres to all safety regulations and protocols, utilizing the correct tools and equipment while remaining aware of surroundings.
- Operate heavy machinery such as skid steers, man lifts, and power tools as necessary to fulfill job requirements.
- Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on equipment, performing repairs as needed and following proper lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Ensure cleanliness of work areas through regular sweeping, shoveling, and scraping.
- Adhere to safety guidelines to promote a secure working environment for both yourself and your colleagues.
- Exhibit a positive demeanor and strong work ethic to foster a productive and unified team atmosphere.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old due to the nature of the work.
- Successfully pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as well as a physical examination.
- Prior experience operating loaders or other heavy construction machinery is preferred.
- Willingness to acquire new skills and techniques on the job.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Demonstrated work ethic and capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift heavy items and work under various weather conditions.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety and cleanliness on the job site.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Possess a positive, professional attitude with a readiness to travel.
- Availability to work overtime as necessary, including weekends.
Physical Demands:
- Capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift, with or without assistance.
- Regular walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
- Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods, traversing uneven terrain and climbing ladders and stairways.
- Willingness to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, mud, and dust.
- Frequent exposure to noise, dust, fuel, oil, and other chemicals.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment and other safety gear as required.
- Willingness to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as needed.
