Academic Advisor

Farmingdale State College seeks a dedicated Academic Advisor to join our team in the Academic Advisement and Information Center (AAIC). As a key member of our advising team, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our students.

• Advise and register incoming first-year students, as well as more advanced students in selected majors.
• Meet with students given early warning, academic warning, and probation notices, and develop strategies for their success.
• Provide information, resources, and referrals on broad academic matters and special opportunities to all FSC students.
• Support students during recruitment events, such as Open House, Admitted Student Days, Summer Orientation, and extended registration dates.
• Conduct workshops and prepare advisement materials and handbooks.
• Assist faculty advisors in using updated Banner modules, Degree Works, and CRM Advise information systems for student advisement, tracking, and degree audit.
• Sustain partnerships with other individuals and offices to ensure students receive appropriate guidance and support.
• Provide critical care to vulnerable student populations through specialized programs.

• Bachelor's Degree in an academic discipline or related field (e.g., counseling, social work).
• Knowledge of skills for academic success, such as study habits, time management, and overcoming test anxiety.
• Ability to advise college students individually, assessing needs and offering guidance.
• Ability to work with individuals and offices that serve students.

• Experience serving as an academic advisor or counselor in Higher Education.
• Familiarity with Banner and Degree Works.
• Excellent record-keeping skills (using computer systems).

This is a full-time UUP position. For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, October 18, 2024, and ending Thursday, October 31, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.
