Position Overview

OBJECTIVE:

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE INSTITUTION:
Instructors are tasked with utilizing their knowledge to provide educational services to learners through:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Course Material Review:
Examine the Course Control Document (CCD) and lesson plans aligned with the syllabus. Assess exams, quizzes, and assignments using available educational technologies and resources. Collaborate with fellow nursing faculty to identify and coordinate necessary materials with the librarian and bookstore.

Course Delivery:
Uphold professional standards in nursing education. Adhere to departmental guidelines for classroom management, technology use, and record-keeping. Conduct didactic, laboratory, and clinical sessions as required. Facilitate class discussions and administer assessments while maintaining rigorous grading standards. Integrate various teaching methodologies into course content delivery and utilize classroom assessment techniques to identify student learning needs. Maintain daily grade records and enforce institutional policies regarding behavior and attendance.

Simulation Responsibilities:
Assist in the upkeep of equipment, supplies, and manikins. Incorporate technology into evidence-based scenarios for simulated clinical experiences, leveraging current research to enhance simulation practices.

Monitoring Student Progress:
Track student progress and provide follow-up as necessary. Maintain daily attendance records and enforce attendance policies. Communicate with students who miss classes through various channels and report attendance and behavioral issues to the Nursing Program Director and Dean of Academics as needed.

Student Advising:
Address student inquiries and refer them to Student Services when appropriate.

Grade Recording and Reporting:
Assist in maintaining grade books, adhering to departmental grading policies, and providing weekly reports to the Nursing Program Director. Ensure timely submission of evaluations.

Additional Duties:
Oversee the maintenance of equipment and supplies, reporting needs to the Nursing Program Director. Ensure the upkeep of classrooms and laboratories, maintain relevant licenses and certifications, and participate in professional development activities to meet state continuing education requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum requirements include:

  • A current, unencumbered State RN license or a valid Compact State RN license for practice and teaching.
  • A graduate degree from an accredited institution or the commitment to obtain one within five years of initial full-time employment.
  • A minimum of four years of practical nursing experience.
  • At least two years of clinical experience as a registered or advanced practice nurse in the relevant area.
  • Experience in utilizing, instructing, and administering simulation activities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently and interact professionally with students and colleagues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The role demands physical capabilities typical of a professional office environment, including effective communication with colleagues, presenting to students in various formats, and traveling between classrooms and healthcare facilities. Consistent attendance and punctuality are crucial.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position operates in a professional office setting with moderate noise levels and a controlled indoor climate. Travel may be necessary for clinical assignments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
Faculty members are accountable for delivering high-quality educational services, engaging students, fostering learning, and preparing them for professional careers. Collaboration with the Dean, Program Directors, and other faculty is essential to ensure consistent course delivery.

Faculty must possess the required degree and relevant expertise in their discipline, ensuring a quality educational experience for students.
