Position Overview:
This role provides essential services to students within the educational framework as designated by the administrative office. The highest authorized level for this position is Speech Language Pathologist IV, with applications accepted for lower levels in case of recruitment challenges.
Compensation:
New external candidates will start at the initial step of the salary scale, with potential for higher placement based on unique qualifications, critical needs, and available funding. Approval is required for such placements. Current employees will be positioned according to departmental regulations.
Salary Structure:
- Speech Language Pathologist II, SR-18: $5,927.19/month
- Speech Language Pathologist III, SR-20: $6,426.81/month
- Speech Language Pathologist IV, SR-22: $6,872.32/month
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identify and implement specific assessment strategies for evaluating student communication skills.
2. Conduct comprehensive analyses of activities and environments to identify barriers affecting communication.
3. Document and communicate assessment findings effectively.
4. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement educational programs within set timelines.
5. Provide tailored speech-language services to meet the diverse needs of students, while keeping the team informed of progress and recommending adjustments as necessary.
6. Engage with parents and school staff to promote skill generalization and support student independence in communication.
7. Participate in various meetings related to student evaluations, eligibility, and individualized education programs as required.
8. Observe and assess student performance in natural settings to inform intervention strategies.
9. Work collaboratively with educational teams to establish goals and interventions.
10. Manage schedules and workloads efficiently.
11. Attend professional development conferences and assist in training educational staff.
12. Liaise with families and external agencies as needed.
13. Maintain accurate records of services provided, student progress, and resource needs.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirement:
Applicants must hold a master's degree in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation of ASHA.
Experience Requirement:
Applicants must demonstrate progressively responsible experience as outlined below:
- Speech-Language Pathologist II: No experience required
- Speech-Language Pathologist III: No experience required
- Speech-Language Pathologist IV: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Specialized Experience:
Professional experience in speech-language pathology is essential, providing a comprehensive understanding of theories, research, and evidence-based practices applicable to students' educational and developmental needs.
Licensure:
For levels III and IV, a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA and a State of Hawaii Speech Pathologist license are mandatory.
Driver's License:
A current, valid driver's license is required.
Quality of Experience:
Experience must reflect the necessary scope and responsibility to demonstrate the ability to fulfill the position's duties effectively.
