Maternal and Family Health Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nutrition Counselor to join our team. As a Nutrition Counselor, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals and families to lead healthier lives by providing education, support, and resources.
Key Responsibilities:- Data Collection and Screening: Collect and analyze data to determine client eligibility and perform screenings to ensure the delivery of WIC benefits, nutrition education, and non-high-risk certifications.
- Nutrition Education and Support: Provide and document nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support, nutrition care plans, and tailored food packages for participants' medical and nutritional needs.
- Referrals and Consultations: Refer participants to appropriate services and consult with experts when necessary to ensure comprehensive care.
- Client Assessment and Verification: Conduct thorough participant assessments, verify identification and residency, and confirm income eligibility.
- Program Promotion and Outreach: Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals, monitor and promote nutrition education, breastfeeding, and outreach activities.
- Communication and Training: Use Text Magic to communicate appointment information and attend regular training sessions and updates.
- Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's or associate's degree in any field or completed college course(s) in nutrition or dietetics recommended.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Program Assistant or Breastfeeding Peer Counselor; or one year of experience in a related field.
- Skills: Good verbal communication, bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, basic math skills, and exceptional customer service skills.
