Relief Mental Health Psychiatrist Position

Los Angeles County Department of Health Services is seeking a qualified Relief Mental Health Psychiatrist to join our team. As a key member of our community programs, you will provide professional medical services in a mental health setting on an hourly as needed basis.
Job Summary:The Relief Mental Health Psychiatrist will provide psychosocial and psychiatric assessment, treatment recommendations, linkage, navigation, advocacy, and consultation services for ODR clients. You will consult with physicians and other clinical staff to develop care plans suited to the individual needs, considering diagnoses and legal stipulations.
Responsibilities:- Provide psychiatry services and consultations with community-based providers who will work with the population of clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Review records and information from both the criminal justice and mental health systems when making treatment recommendations.
- Screen for health-related concerns and perform psychiatric evaluations.
- Develop comprehensive treatment plans.
- Evaluate individuals/clients to determine if probable cause is met to initiate detention under WIC 5150.
- Provide clinical consultation to other medical providers and staff, including interns and resident physicians, regarding treatment interventions and medical and diagnostic work performed and participates in clinical case conferences.
- Perform medication support services by evaluating the need for psychotropic medications.
- Prescribe administer medications and monitor their overall effect.
- Order, obtain, review, and monitor pertinent laboratory tests.
- Participate in the quality of care and provide input into formulating corrective action plans to mitigate future clinical risk.
- Testify in court as an expert witness as needed.
- Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in psychiatry or equivalent training.
- California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.
- A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
