About Our Senior Estimator Role


As a Senior Estimator, you will lead the estimation process for major steel construction projects, driving optimization in project feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and overall success.

You will spearhead the preparation of detailed cost estimates, mentor junior staff, and ensure alignment with project goals and client expectations, with your expertise serving as a key driver in strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Managed bid processes, securing competitive subcontractor bids, and optimizing vendor selection for increased project profitability.
  2. Strategically engage in the design phase and conduct comprehensive plan analysis including detailed assessments of material requirements, labor resources, and project specifications.
  3. Produce accurate and competitive estimates and proposals that incorporate scheduling, considerations for potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and construction methodologies.
  4. Lead document control, ensuring seamless coordination and high efficiency throughout the estimation process.
  5. Enhance cost estimation accuracy through efficient quantity take-offs and alignment of SPAN takeoffs with trade proposals.
  6. Proactively manage RFIs to resolve discrepancies, ensuring clarity for clients and minimizing potential monetary or time impacts.
  7. Leverage cost data from completed projects to establish a robust historical database, optimizing future estimate accuracy.
  8. Analyze completed projects, comparing estimated costs to actual costs, and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
  9. Cultivate robust relationships with clients and cross-disciplinary professionals, fostering a collaborative project environment.
  10. Conducted in-depth research on current market trends, material pricing, labor rates, and other cost-related factors, contributing to informed decision-making and cost optimization.
Requirements


Five to eight years of applicable experience, preferably on pre-engineered metal building or large commercial or relevant industrial construction projects.

Extensive experience in construction estimation, focusing on steel structures ranging anywhere from 20,000 to 1+ million square feet.

Expertise in labor cost estimation is a plus.

Deep understanding of construction processes and market dynamics.

Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to take on at least one project every two weeks, and meticulously track all projects through to completion.

Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite including MS Project and AutoCAD and estimation software

Salary Range

$90,000 to $130,000 Annually

Span HQ Office in Madera, CA

Amount of Travel

Minimal, primarily for site visits or vendor meetings as needed

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional overtime as project deadlines approach

Physical Requirements

The ability to remain in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.

Manual dexterity needed to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Ability to occasionally visit construction sites, requiring mobility and the ability to wear personal protective equipment.

Work Environment

Primarily based in an office setting with a controlled climate.

Occasional site visits may expose individuals to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and the physical aspects of a construction site.

Standard office hours with potential for overtime during project peaks.
