Job Summary:
ECS Corporate Services is seeking a highly skilled Data Center Technician II to join our team in Pocatello, ID. As a Data Center Technician II, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of various types of Information Technology (IT) hardware devices and cabling in a data center environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate data center infrastructure requirements and coordinate necessary resources to prepare space for equipment installation.
- Coordinate facilities resources such as electric and cooling for specialized equipment.
- Provision cabling, floor cutouts, and rack rails and mounting hardware for IT device installation.
- Perform end-to-end installation of patch cables and management cabling.
- Perform troubleshooting assistance and replacement of suspected failed installation components.
- Follow labeling standards and collect, track, and update configuration changes and inventory information.
- Adhere to data center safety rules and policy as well as installation standards.
- Perform other duties as required, such as uncrating and unboxing large numbers of system and pallets of gear.
- Proficiency in generating and interpreting wiring and cabling diagrams in Visio and CADD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Monitor data center IT and environmental systems for failures and coordinate with vendors or repair technicians for repairs or replacements.
- Assist in developing, managing, sustaining, and using a tracking database and scanning gun for hardware inventory control.
- Manage expendable and non-expendable parts and tools and cable inventories of FBI and vendor equipment.
- Perform IT and system hardware maintenance and IT or system equipment replacement services.
- Keep data center infrastructure and IT equipment in operating condition consistent with OEM requirements.
- Perform copper and fiber communications cable installations and terminations.
- Provide timely problem resolution and continually transition knowledge to Government staff through training and assistance.
- Develop, test, and monitor strategies for computer hardware devices and systems.
- Assess the effectiveness of vendor/OEM hardware maintenance activities.
- Read schematics, populate multiple databases, and utilize software such as MS Visio to document projects.
- Provide escort services for personnel requiring access to the Data Center facility.
Physical Demands:
The nature of the Hardware Engineer duties has physical demands such as pulling, cabling, lifting, kneeling, crawling, etc. The candidate shall be required to lift IT equipment during installation and removal along with installing communications cabling under a raised floor structure.
