Position Title: PPM Line Clearance Liaison
Role Overview:
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct thorough inspections of recent line clearance operations to verify adherence to tree trimming specifications and standards set forth by the arboriculture industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of circuits before scheduled maintenance trimming by the line clearance contractor to identify trees suitable for removal. This includes assessing trees or tall brush within utility easements and those on private property that require ongoing pruning due to their proximity to overhead conductors. The role necessitates significant outdoor walking and physical stamina.
- Identify high-risk trees for permitting and removal in accordance with ANSI A300 Part 9.
- Inform customers about upcoming tree trimming and removal activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of local tree species and their growth rates.
- Exercise independent judgment and initiative in making decisions regarding tree removals.
- Obtain necessary customer permits for tree removals on private property.
- Mark trees designated for removal and document their locations using circuit maps.
- Assist LE Line Clearance personnel during storm restoration efforts, which may involve local driving in adverse weather conditions.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by LE Line Clearance staff.
- Visually inspect assigned electric lines to audit completed vegetation management tasks, ensuring compliance with established standards, requiring significant outdoor walking and physical endurance.
- Prepare work orders and maps for any necessary rework identified during electric line audits.
- Address and resolve customer inquiries or complaints related to vegetation management.
- Provide support during storm restoration activities, which may include local driving in inclement weather.
- Execute other related duties as required by Lakeland Electric staff.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of experience in the line clearance sector.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Proficient map reading skills.
- Associate degree in urban forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, environmental science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered, along with maintaining International Society of Arboriculture Arborist certification and Utility Arborist certification. Experience in utility right-of-way vegetation management is preferred.
Physical and Job Site Requirements:
- Ability to complete hiring paperwork electronically.
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have and maintain a valid phone.
- Willingness to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for departmental efficiency.
- This position may be designated as Mission Critical by the Department Director.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to perform the essential functions of the role.
- Capability to navigate confined spaces and uneven terrain.
- Must have full range of motion appropriate for the position.
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
- Must be able to hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from colleagues and job-related sounds.
- Visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination necessary for working at heights and on uneven surfaces.
- Safety/steel toe shoes are mandatory.
