Miami New Times is seeking an experienced Arts and Culture Editor to lead our coverage of Miami's vibrant arts and lifestyle scenes. As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for managing and executing our arts and culture coverage, including hiring and managing freelance reporters and photographers, editing stories for structure and content, and collaborating with the editor-in-chief on planning arts and culture coverage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the editorial workflow for the arts and culture vertical, assigning stories to reporters and freelancers, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring a regular cadence of story output and balance.
  • Write daily stories and coach and manage freelancers through the pitching, reporting, writing, editing, and production process.
  • Build broad relationships with the arts and culture community to source story ideas, research, and reporting that reflect the diverse communities of Miami.
  • Participate in our annual Best of Miami issue and other special projects during the year.

Requirements

  • An experienced journalist and editor with a working knowledge of Miami's character, people, and culture.
  • At least two years of newsroom management experience.
  • Ability to write well-reported and thought-provoking stories and the instincts for uncovering and sourcing those stories.
  • Adept editor who can edit stories quickly and effectively.
  • Highly-organized, resourceful, and proactive self-starter committed to accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • In-depth understanding of social media and digital journalism with the ability to read and understand analytics to make informed coverage decisions.
