General Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The General Manager is a key leadership role responsible for leading a team of store department managers and overseeing all aspects of managing a single retail store. This includes guest service, sales, expense control, and ensuring the proper health, appearance, welfare, and proper handling of all animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build a high-performing team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
  • Train, coach, and develop department level leaders and hourly store partners in all areas and functions required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards.
  • Meet or exceed goals related to total store sales, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Market the store and its products, oversee planning of in-store and community events, such as adoptions, school visits, and other local promotions and animal-welfare events.
  • Ensure the store's appearance adheres to Petco operational standards and safety procedures.
  • Protect Petco pets & merchandise, and minimize loss by ensuring all store standards and operating procedures are met.

Requirements:

  • Passion for pets and focus on process excellence.
  • Drive for results and ability to lead and influence.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
