Children's National is seeking a highly skilled Radiation Safety Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our radiation safety program, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices in our medical and research facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing the use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices.
- Develop and implement comprehensive radiation safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct radiation and contamination surveys, sealed source inventory and leak tests, program audits, decontamination, decommissioning, and effluent/environmental monitoring.
- Investigate and respond to radiological incidents, radioactive spills, and waste-related incidents.
- Provide consultation and advice on construction and research projects.
- Evaluate calculations and reports for shielding recommendations for x-ray equipment and nuclear medicine areas.
- Perform inspections, identify, and evaluate radiological hazards, investigate unsafe practices, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
- Participate in special projects and other job-related duties as assigned.
- M.S. in Health Physics, Medical Physics, or related discipline - Required.
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) - Preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Radiation Safety Physicist preferably at a facility with both medical and research services - Required.
- Required Certifications: Must fulfill training and experience requirements specified by Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to be named an RSO on the NRC License.
- Certified Health Physicist (CHP) or equivalent - Preferred.
- ABR boarded (or eligible) in Diagnostic Medical Physics - Preferred.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing the use of radioactive materials as they pertain to a research facility or teaching medical setting.
- Ability to develop comprehensive quarterly, annual, and other reports including tracking and trending of program data for review and action by the radiation safety committee and subcommittees.
- Ability to develop and present lectures and training to institutional and non-institutional groups on a full range of subject matter related to radiation safety.
