About the Role

Erie Neighborhood House is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Early Childhood Educator to join our team as a Toddler Program Director. As a key member of our childcare program, you will be responsible for leading a team of educators in providing high-quality care and education to young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership: Partner with the Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) to create and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate lesson plans for the classroom.
  • Staff Supervision: Work alongside the Site Director to provide discipline and feedback performance reviews for the Assistant Teacher.
  • Child Development: Complete all developmental and social emotional screenings in accordance with Early Head Start timelines.
  • Classroom Management: Assume primary care responsibilities for four children in the classroom.
  • Family Engagement: Welcome children and parents into the classroom and work to develop a positive relationship.
  • Team Collaboration: Promote recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children, families, and staff in the classroom.
  • Safety and Security: Use active supervision techniques to supervise children at all times.
  • Community Outreach: Act as an ambassador for the Erie Neighborhood House Child Care program.
  • Recruitment: Participate in the recruitment of children and families for Erie House programs.
  • Center Operations: Act as Director Designee for the center as assigned.
  • Administrative Tasks: Open/closes the classroom for the day as assigned, remain in the classroom to supervise children whose parents pick up late as needed, and input child observations into My Teaching Strategies on a weekly basis.
  • Professional Development: Complete My Teaching Strategies checkpoints according to education timeline, complete two home visits per child per year according to the education timeline, complete parent-teacher conferences according to the education timeline, and meet with Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) on a monthly basis to provide supervision and support and to discuss classroom concerns.
  • Compliance: Assure compliance with all Early Head Start performance standards, maintain current Illinois Gateways Registry membership, maintain five hours of Gateways-approved training per program year, and complete 20 hours of professional development training per program year.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field.
  • Credentials: Must obtain a Level 4 Gateway Credential by 2024.
  • Experience: 2-3 years' experience working in a nursery or licensed daycare.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and evacuate the building during emergencies.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred.
  • Personal Qualities: Self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, makes good judgments, creative, reliable, and dependable.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of children's development and growth, ability to work with diverse populations, and strong communication skills.
