Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional will provide direct support with community life engagement and employment coaching as needed to individuals with disabilities. This includes assisting with implementing and following the person-centered plan to include following their vision of a good life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate assistance for the person to access existing community resources
- Support individuals with disabilities in their home and community settings
- Develop daily living skills such as budgeting, shopping, exploring new hobbies, cooking, and home management
- Support career planning and discovery of talent
- Provide on-the-job support/coaching to employees with disabilities in assisting with developing their skills needed to perform job duties
- Develop relationships with employers and act as a mediator as needed between the employer and the employee
- Utilize various instructional strategies to match the person's preferences and learning style
- Communicate and articulate information effectively
- Explore and implement assistive technology to increase the individual's independence
- Maintain appropriate records such as activity records
- Respect confidentiality and maintain privacy
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required with work experience; prefer 4-year degree from accredited college
- Current valid driver's license and willingness to obtain a Class E (Chauffeur's) license immediately upon hire
- Reliable vehicle and ability to maintain it safely to transport people in the community
- Ability to pass all required background screenings
- Flexibility to work hours to accommodate customer needs
- Ability to use technology to complete required documentation
