The Senior Financial Accountant will play a crucial role in various aspects of the foundation's accounting and finance functions. Responsibilities include:
- Updating and organizing accounts payable documentation, including paid invoices and check requests.
- Assisting with monthly bank reconciliations and the preparation of financial statements.
- Setting up and maintaining fund records in Raiser's Edge.
- Preparing and reconciling monthly investment schedules and general ledger entries for the monthly closing process.
- Interacting professionally with the Board of Directors, scholarship recipients, members, volunteers, regulatory agencies, and donors.
The Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing education by securing charitable funds for scholarships, fellowships, and grants. The foundation supports members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and diverse beneficiaries, ensuring inclusivity regardless of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or disability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with the Core Values of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Corporate Office.
- Gather necessary documentation for check requests and prepare them for approval.
- Manage the mailing of checks to vendors using appropriate postal services.
- Maintain accurate A/P files and complete all necessary compliance reports.
- Assist with reconciling cash, credit card, ACH, and direct debit transactions.
- Support the preparation for annual audits as required.
- Collaborate with various departments to meet organizational goals.
- Participate in additional projects and duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
- Focused on goals and deadlines.
- Fast-paced and demanding, especially during peak seasons.
- Team-oriented structure with multiple concurrent tasks.
- Office-based with potential travel for meetings and conventions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and communicate effectively.
Qualifications:
- CPA, MBA, or a master's degree in accountancy is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational capabilities.
- Ability to multitask and maintain composure under pressure.
- Knowledge of financial operations and software such as Blackbaud's Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge.
