Practical Nursing Specialist

As a Practical Nursing Specialist, you will operate under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, actively participating in the care and treatment of patients and residents.
Licensure Requirements:
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
1. A valid license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
OR
2. A limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
OR
3. An application submitted for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State (This option is available if you are appointed immediately after graduating from an accredited practical nursing program in New York State).
Important Notes:
- If appointed with qualifications 2 or 3, you are required to obtain your license within one year of the issuance of your limited permit; failure to do so may result in removal from the position.
- Maintaining your license and registration is crucial; any lapse may lead to disciplinary action.
- All credentials will be verified during the interview process.
- Ensure you are not listed as an excluded individual on any Federal or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists, as this may affect your employment status.
- If appointed, you may need to enroll as a Medicare provider and obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, your duties will include:
- Administering medications and injections.
- Performing tube feedings and hanging IVs.
- Collecting blood samples, if certified for venipuncture.
- Providing colostomy care and observing patients for changes in their condition.
- Recording vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Preparing and applying simple dressings, bathing, and feeding patients.
- Maintaining cleanliness and order in patient quarters, including making beds and changing linens.
Work Environment:
Provision of nursing services may occur within a state-operated facility or a community-based residential program.
