Position Title: Specialized Educator for Social Studies

Employment Duration: 10 Months

Reports To: Principal of the Institution

KEY FEATURES OF THE ROLE: The primary responsibility of this role is to design and deliver tailored educational experiences for students with disabilities across diverse learning environments. The individual in this position is tasked with establishing a dynamic program and educational atmosphere that offers specialized instruction, enabling students with disabilities to engage with the curriculum to the fullest extent possible, supported by necessary aids, accommodations, and additional resources.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Deliver direct instructional assistance to students within a supportive setting.
  • Utilize specially crafted instructional methods to enhance the development of sensory, perceptual-motor skills, language, cognitive abilities, and memory.
  • Instruct on socially acceptable behaviors as outlined in students' individualized education programs (IEPs), employing strategies within a comprehensive positive behavioral support framework.
  • Adapt the curriculum for students with disabilities using a variety of instructional techniques and technological resources.
  • Establish and uphold behavioral guidelines and procedures to maintain a conducive learning environment for all students.
  • Engage with parents to discuss their children's progress and to identify priorities for their educational and individualized needs.
  • Collaborate with parents, administrators, social workers, and other professionals to formulate individualized education programs (IEPs) aimed at fostering students' educational, physical, and social/emotional growth.
  • Maintain precise and comprehensive student records and prepare reports on student activities as mandated by regulations and district policies.
  • Set clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, effectively communicating these objectives to students.
  • Develop and execute annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students.
  • Provide guidance, oversight, and assessment of educational assistants as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Dual Certified Teacher with Content Specific Special Education Certification in Social Studies or Students with Disabilities Generalist and Social Studies 7-12 certification.
