Facilities Maintenance Mechanic II

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Mechanic II to join our team at Delaware Technical & Community College. This is a full-time position responsible for performing building maintenance and repair work, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Perform building maintenance and repair work, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks.
- Identify and correct building and equipment problems to maintain safe conditions and prevent failures.
- Provide technical expertise to facilities personnel and outside contractors to assist with job requirements and planning.
- Repair, modify, construct, fabricate, install, and maintain building structures and equipment.
- Inspect facilities equipment and systems to determine condition and safe operation.
- Prepare reports of inspections and labor and material estimates to apprise supervisors of conditions and materials needed for repairs.
- Order and stock building supplies, materials, and parts to replace materials consumed and assure availability for assigned projects.
- Communicate orally and in writing to notify supervisor of conditions and scheduling dates for repairs.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of relevant experience; or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
The incumbent reports to a technical or administrative supervisor and is responsible for carrying out assignments of a diverse and complex nature. A class incumbent is involved in maintaining schedules in areas such as fixtures, appurtenances, water treatment and sewage systems, electrical systems, HVAC, heavy duty structural and mechanical equipment repair, and/or renovation or restoration of buildings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the maintenance and repair of heating and cooling equipment.
- Knowledge of local/state/federal heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) codes, plumbing codes, and electrical codes to perform installation, maintenance, and repair work which will meet code requirements.
- Knowledge of the basic methods and techniques used in the traditional building and/or mechanical trades.
- Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of tools commonly used in building and/or mechanical trades.
- Knowledge of the proper use and hazards of chemical materials.
- Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines regarding safety practices.
- Skill in the monitoring and adjustment of heating and cooling systems and in accurately reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and schematics as they relate to buildings and utilities services systems.
- Skill in inspecting and determining repairs and replacements of materials and equipment.
- Ability to determine the cause of equipment malfunction, and the appropriate course of corrective action to take.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain simple records of work performed.
- Ability to follow up and complete work orders.
