Job Title: Recreation Aide

Job Summary:

The Long Beach Unified School District is seeking a Recreation Aide to provide support for the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program. The successful candidate will assist in creating a safe, clean, and secure environment for students, while also overseeing recreational and playground activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and oversee recreational, playground, and off-campus activities
  • Maintain control and discipline of students participating in playground and recreational activities
  • Monitor and circulate throughout assigned areas to promote safety and acceptable attitudes
  • Apply District and program rules by monitoring and controlling behavior of students during indoor and outdoor activities
  • Communicate with school and Expanded Learning Opportunities Program administration and staff regarding pertinent information
  • Perform incidental housekeeping tasks and operate a walkie-talkie and radio for emergency assistance
  • Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed students

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children in an instructional, expanded learning, or similar program is highly desirable
  • Ability to obtain a valid First Aid and CPR certificate within six months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment
  • Willingness and ability to assist individual students with personal hygiene, diapering, and toileting as necessary
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch, and push, pull, lift, and carry supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to see to monitor student activities and work in seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work in an indoor and outdoor environment and support students through expanded learning opportunities

The Recreation Aide will work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of students and staff. The position requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, while also being able to communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration.
