Role of the Medical Scribe:
The Medical Scribe plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely completion of medical records and patient documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accompany the physician during patient care activities throughout each shift, while simultaneously updating the medical record in real-time.
2. Accurately transcribe details from physical examinations and document elements of the patient chart, including results from laboratory tests, imaging studies, and prescribed medications.
3. Attend to record the physician's discussions with family members or other healthcare providers regarding specific patient cases.
4. Remind the physician about the status of lab results, X-rays, or other patient evaluations, and document these findings in the patient charts to facilitate informed treatment decisions.
5. Document procedures performed by the physician or other healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
6. Assist in initiating communication with consultants as needed.
7. Master the use of the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and the PACS imaging system.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree or equivalent experience is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred, especially in social sciences or a medically related field. Familiarity with medical terminology is essential.
Experience:
Prior experience in a public-facing role within a healthcare setting is required.
Skills:
Exceptional computer skills, typing proficiency, and strong interpersonal and verbal communication abilities are necessary.
