Internship in Robotics Engineering

Position: Robotics Engineering Internship (Part-Time - Maximum of 29 hours per week)

Location: Portsmouth, VA

Position Summary: Support the research & development (R&D) team in advancing SimIS' autonomous ground robotics solutions.

• Contribute to the creation of software/firmware for autonomous indoor ground robotics applications.
• Develop software to connect sonar and LIDAR sensors to the onboard computing unit.
• Implement software for navigation, obstacle detection and avoidance, as well as system management and onboard health monitoring.

Essential Qualifications:

• Experience with ROS development utilizing C/C++ and Python.
• Understanding of fundamental robotics principles, particularly concerning wheeled robots, and familiarity with robotic sensors such as sonar, LIDAR, and vision-based object tracking.
• Preferred knowledge of autonomous robotics concepts including occupancy grid generation, position estimation, and SLAM.

Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
• Candidates must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Availability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, not exceeding 29 hours.

Educational Background: Currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.

Security Clearance: None required.

Travel Requirements: 20% (some travel may be necessary).
