Aquatic Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard I to join our team at the Young Men's Christian Association of Wichita Kansas. As a Lifeguard I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our members and participants in the aquatic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prevent accidents and promote the general safety of all swimmers, protecting life at all times.
- Maintain all lifeguard skills as required in lifeguard certification.
- Actively scan and maintain appropriate positioning in pool area at all times.
- Immediately and properly respond to medical emergencies when they arise.
- Effectively supervise participants to maintain safety standards.
- Enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Report all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and provide to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
- Never leave the pool unattended.
- Perform cleaning duties as assigned.
- Maintain records as required (i.e., chemical readings, daily attendance logs).
- Minimum age of 16.
- Must be able to frequently perform physical activities such as swimming, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing for extended periods, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to perform work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather conditions.
- Must maintain lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must be able to visually see all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
- Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Must possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods to ensure safety of participants.
- Must possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
- Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision.
- Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Must be able to handle questions/concerns and resolve conflicts in a courteous and professional manner.
- Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
This position requires working in a fast-paced aquatic environment, with frequent exposure to water and varying weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
