Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Officer to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances, adhering to policies, procedures, and training.
  • Conduct routine patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections, audits, and contraband searches.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including workplace violence, and provide de-escalation services.
  • Investigate incidents, complete reports, and address complaints in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and first responder agencies, and coordinate prisoner patient guard activities.
  • Participate in training and education programs to maintain current Department training standards.
Requirements
  • Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice.
  • A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS).
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning in dealings with employees, visitors, and patients.
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
  • Ability to use a computer to document work and navigate web pages.
Working Conditions
  • Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, and lift up to 35 lbs occasionally.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
  • Ability to defend self and/or others in case of physical confrontations.
