JOB TITLE: Park Maintenance Technician

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District is on the lookout for a committed individual equipped with the skills necessary to thrive as a Park Maintenance Technician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision, the selected candidate will perform manual labor and various essential tasks vital for the maintenance, repair, and functionality of District parks, landscaped areas, buildings, and facilities.

YOUR TASKS WILL INCLUDE:
  • Supporting the upkeep, repair, and development of parks and recreational facilities.
  • Utilizing basic power tools and equipment for grounds and park maintenance.
  • Ensuring that plantings, grounds, and structures are well-maintained.
  • Executing minor repairs related to plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and electrical systems.
  • Carrying out horticultural activities such as mowing, weeding, and tree care.
  • Preparing and maintaining sports fields and other recreational areas.
  • Driving and operating various machinery and vehicles.
  • Conducting routine maintenance and repair on equipment and vehicles.
  • Overseeing inspections to determine maintenance requirements.
  • Engaging in safety and risk management initiatives.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Familiarity with standard practices and materials used in park maintenance and construction.
  • Understanding of park maintenance tools and machinery.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to effectively use common hand tools for maintenance tasks.
ABILITIES:
  • Capability to operate various types of machinery and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Aptitude for building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues.
  • Physical endurance to perform manual labor tasks.
  • Willingness to work in diverse weather conditions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Clear vision is necessary for driving and operating equipment.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D., along with proficient English language skills for effective job performance.

LICENSING:

A valid California Driver's License is required for this role, with compliance to all vehicle operation standards as established by the District.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Selected candidates will undergo a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening, which will be funded by the District. Maintaining a drug-free status is essential for continued employment.
