About the Job:The RN in the PCU is responsible for delivering specialized care to patients requiring more monitoring and treatment than those in a general medical-surgical unit.
Responsibilities:Patient Assessment: Perform thorough assessments to understand the physical and emotional needs of patients. Continuously monitor vital signs, lab results, and cardiac rhythms for any concerning changes.
Patient Care and Monitoring: Administer prescribed medications and treatments while meticulously monitoring patient responses. Utilize telemetry and other advanced monitoring equipment to ensure patient safety and comfort.
Collaboration: Engage with a multidisciplinary team to create and implement comprehensive care plans. Participate in daily rounds to assess patient progress and adapt care strategies as necessary.
Patient Education: Guide patients and families through recovery by providing vital information about treatment plans and medications. Empower patients to manage their health proactively, emphasizing prevention and self-care.
Documentation: Maintain precise records of all nursing interventions and patient responses using electronic health records. Ensure adherence to all regulatory and hospital documentation standards.
Safety & Infection Control: Implement infection control measures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) diligently. Respond swiftly to patient emergencies and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
Emergency Response: Act promptly in emergencies, including code blue situations, performing advanced life support as needed.
