Position Overview:

The Patient Financial Services Representative (PFSR) acts as the initial point of contact for patients and their guarantors within various healthcare settings, including hospitals and medical offices. The PFSR interacts with patients or their representatives to collect essential information and address inquiries, ensuring that all necessary demographic, financial, and insurance eligibility details are accurately gathered and confirmed. This role also involves securing all required notices and consent forms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates pre-certification and authorization processes.
  • Confirms insurance benefits by collecting insurance cards and verifying active coverage.
  • Determines the appropriate order for insurance filing when multiple coverages are applicable.
  • Clarifies policies, including regulatory and financial consent forms, and obtains necessary signatures.
  • May assist with patient discharge tasks, such as reviewing after-visit summaries, scheduling future appointments, and coordinating referrals.
  • Conducts interviews with patients and guarantors at the workstation or bedside to gather all required information, including identification verification.
  • May verify physician orders and prescriptions for accuracy.
  • May assist in scheduling walk-in appointments for available services.
  • Collects patient financial responsibilities in accordance with collection guidelines and provides estimates upon request.
  • Prepares and reconciles daily deposits of payment collections.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service, ensuring all inquiries and concerns are addressed promptly and courteously.
  • Guides patients to the appropriate locations for services as needed.

Additional Information:

The complexity of this role necessitates strong communication skills, critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision. Candidates must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and responding appropriately. While no prior experience is required, one year of relevant experience in a hospital, medical office, or customer service setting is preferred.
