Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Sandy Springs. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and regulations, providing general courtroom security, and participating in community-based police activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general courtroom security and coordinate the transfer of inmates from local holding facilities to required court appearances.
  • Patrol designated areas of the city to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes, and enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances.
  • Respond to calls for the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, and general public service calls.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations at scenes of incidents, determine what, if any, crime has been committed, and identify, collect, preserve, process, photograph, and book evidence.
  • Prepare and serve search and arrest warrants, apprehend and arrest offenders for crimes committed under Federal, State, and local laws and codes.
  • Direct traffic at fires, special events, and other emergency situations, and provide traffic and crowd control at parades, festivals, riots, and other events.
  • Process required paperwork during scheduled tours of duty, request and process status reports for driver's licenses and histories, and other information through NCIC and GCIC databases.
  • Serve as a liaison and public relations officer for the assigned area, establish and preserve good relationships with the public, and may develop reliable informants and provide intelligence information to divisional and/or departmental personnel.
  • Participate in continuous training to enhance law enforcement skills, including defensive driving skills, apprehension and arrest techniques, investigative skills, and general law enforcement skills.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and other types of duties in support of law enforcement services, programs, and activities.
Requirements
  • Current Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of Law Enforcement/Patrol experience.
  • Must possess a valid US Driver's License and a GA Driver's License at the time of employment.
  • Must successfully complete all steps in the hiring process, including passing an extensive background investigation, post-offer polygraph examination, psychological and medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to write clearly, accurately, concisely, and legibly using correct English, grammatical construction, and spelling, and to read and interpret complex technical documents in English.
  • Ability to express oneself in a clear, distinct, and understandable manner when speaking to individuals, to people of different socio-economic levels, before various public and community groups, and when testifying.
  • Exhibits good customer service skills and ability to interpret, apply, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Substantive knowledge of and experience with community policing principles and practices and gang and drug-oriented programs/strategies.
