Job Title: Associate Mechanical Engineer, Journey

Join the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) team as an Associate Mechanical Engineer, Journey, and contribute to the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for thermal, hydro, wind, and photovoltaic power generating resources and pipelines.

About the Role:
  • Perform minor to moderately complex mechanical design and inspection tasks for new construction, modification, and maintenance of SMUD's various power generating units and supporting infrastructure assets.
  • Prepare Design Change Notice (DCN) packages for this work to ensure generation operations for SMUD that are reliable and efficient, and that comply with regulatory requirements and restrictions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that project designs are carried out in the field and that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including engineering designs, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in mechanical engineering and apply this knowledge to improve SMUD's operations and services.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for thermal, hydro, wind, and photovoltaic power generating resources and pipelines.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices of mechanical engineering design for thermal, hydro, wind, and photovoltaic power generating resources and pipelines.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, and geographic information system (GIS) software.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
