Surgical Services Role
This position is part of our surgical services team in the operating room at Ludington Hospital. Responsibilities include preparing the surgical suite, handling instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and responding to changing conditions during procedures.
- Provides sterile instruments and supplies during surgeries.
- Conducts sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
- Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each surgery.
- Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment.
- Collaborates with surgeons to build and manage preference cards through effective communication.
- Suggests instrument set changes to EMI and works with SPD to identify sets needing improvement.
- Engages with surgeons to recommend instrument sets (e.g., streamlining sets by removing instruments, combining sets, adding instruments that are always opened separately, etc).
- Participates in cost-saving efforts by discussing product usage with surgeons, making suggestions to EMIs, and eliminating waste on cases.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Associate's Degree or completion of an Accredited Surgical Tech Program or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: Surgical Technologist experience (clinical rotations count as experience).
- BLS Certification required within 90 days.
- Surgical Tech Certification preferred.
