Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will deliver comprehensive health care services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. APPs are extensively trained both academically and clinically to undertake numerous routine yet essential tasks typically managed by physicians, and they are responsible for their own clinical decisions while working in collaboration with their supervising physicians.

Employment Status: Full-time/Exempt
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts patient examinations, gathers medical histories, documents findings, and formulates preliminary diagnoses or determines follow-up actions.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests including x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests.
  • Administers therapeutic procedures such as vaccinations, injections, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Utilizes professional judgment to consult with supervising physicians regarding appropriate treatment options.
  • Creates and executes patient care plans, provides instruction and counseling to patients, and maintains accurate progress records.
  • Prescribes medications in accordance with state regulations and clinic policies.
  • Offers general health education on topics such as nutrition, family planning, emotional well-being, and health maintenance.
  • Assists physicians with emergency interventions and more intricate procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse age groups.
  • Knowledge of orthopedics and sports medicine practices.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Completion of a four-year physician assistant baccalaureate program and one year of clinical training, or;
  • Completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (requiring two years of undergraduate study) followed by two years of clinical training.
  • State licensure based on successful completion of a certifying examination.
  • Must possess an unrestricted Physician Assistant license in Maryland.
  • Ongoing employment necessitates 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Regular exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and bodily fluids.
