The Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Data Platform team is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Senior Quality Assurance Lead - Data Engineering to enhance our analytics and machine learning infrastructure. This role is pivotal in constructing a robust platform that facilitates the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of extensive datasets across the organization. The platform aims to provide frameworks for rapid deployment of new data insights for data-centric products and micro-services, while also supporting machine and deep learning operations that make data science models widely accessible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement sophisticated software testing protocols, including system, integration, and regression tests, to uphold software quality.
- Utilize structured QA methodologies to develop intricate test cases, scripts, and plans that align with specific software testing goals.
- Conduct thorough reviews of internal and external specifications to assess functionality and testability.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of formal test design techniques and their application.
- Establish, monitor, and report on quality assurance metrics, including defect counts, test outcomes, and overall test status.
- Perform quality audits across various technical functions to ensure adherence to quality standards and methodologies.
- Identify potential risks and propose effective contingency plans and timelines.
- Demonstrate expertise in leading data technologies and best practices.
- Facilitate the diagnosis and resolution of problems in both technical and functional domains.
- Promote and advocate for quality engineering best practices within the team.
- Create high-quality tests that align with established standards, innovating new standards as necessary.
- Ensure the accuracy of automated tests through pragmatic approaches.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on the work of fellow engineers to enhance quality and engineering practices.
- Build strong collaborative relationships across various levels and functions.
- Engage in and potentially lead Communities-of-Practice in relevant technologies.
- Participate in ongoing education initiatives to advance your technical skills and knowledge of the Williams-Sonoma business domain.
- Contribute as a member of an agile engineering team, actively participating in the team's workflow.
- Guide and mentor both junior and senior engineers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years of experience in a professional QA or software engineering role.
- 7+ years of experience with big data technologies, including data warehousing solutions.
- Previous experience leading a team of three or more members.
- Proficient in testing distributed, scalable data pipelines that handle data ingestion and processing in both batch and real-time.
- Strong command of programming languages and tools such as Java, Scala, Python, Spark, SQL, and Hive.
- Experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions like Snowflake.
- Familiarity with streaming technologies, including Spark Streaming.
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka.
- Knowledge of Lambda Architecture.
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases like Cassandra, HBase, MongoDB, and Couchbase.
- Understanding of machine learning and deep learning concepts.
- Working knowledge of columnar storage formats such as Parquet, Kudu, and ORC.
- Comprehension of software development and testing best practices.
- Passion for continuous improvement as a Quality Engineer.
- Ability to review and critique code and designs, providing thoughtful feedback in a collaborative manner.
- Skilled in crafting clear and concise written and verbal communications.
- Capability to independently tackle complex problems of varying scope.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 annually, with actual pay determined based on experience and other job-related factors. Compensation may also include various benefits, paid time off, and bonus opportunities.
