Heavy Vehicle Operator

- Adheres to all safety protocols (e.g., DOT, OSHA, EPA, etc.) while transporting hazardous materials and general freight.
- Conducts pre-trip inspections to verify that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are functioning properly.
- Keeps accurate logs of working hours in compliance with U.S. DOT regulations.
- Performs thorough vehicle inspections in line with state and federal guidelines.
- Communicates any service or repair needs promptly.
- Builds and maintains a customer-centric relationship with all stakeholders (internal and external).
- Secures signatures or receipts upon delivery of loads.
- Verifies all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Positions the truck for loading or unloading, following crew signals as necessary, ensuring proper vehicle alignment and special loading equipment placement.
- Operates trucks with capacities exceeding 26,000 lbs, including tankers, roll-offs, and vans, to transport and deliver various materials.
- Secures cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, and/or tarps.
- Interprets shipping documents (i.e., bills of lading and manifests) to understand assignment details.
- Reports any vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damages according to company policy.
- Maintains the interior of the truck and ensures the safety of equipment and personal protective gear.
- Maintains a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no at-fault accidents for the past three years and no major violations.
- Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years of recent over-the-road tanker experience, specifically with liquid tankers.
- A valid driver’s license with a Hazmat Class A CDL endorsement is mandatory.
- Must have a compliant history with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
- Must qualify for a DOT physical examination.
- Must adhere to DOT substance abuse testing requirements.
- Availability to work 14-hour shifts regularly is essential.
- Willingness to travel overnight is required.
- Flexibility to work additional hours, including weekends, is necessary.
- Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and chemical protective gear.
- Must possess the physical capability to safely work under and atop large equipment consistently.
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Must demonstrate the ability to quickly and accurately adjust vehicle controls.
- Ability to coordinate multiple limbs (i.e., arms and legs) while seated or standing is essential.
- Must have the capability to see details at a distance.
- Ability to judge distances between objects accurately is necessary.
- Must be able to identify potential issues before they arise.
- Capability to see details at close range (within a few feet) is required.
- Must be able to time movements in anticipation of changes in speed or direction of moving objects.
- Must respond quickly to signals (sound, light, picture) as they appear.
- Ability to quickly choose between multiple movements in response to different signals is necessary.
- Must possess spatial awareness regarding location in relation to the environment and other objects.
- Fluency in English is required, with the ability to read and interpret safety rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to write clearly and effectively to maintain documentation of work-related activities.
- Must demonstrate the physical capacity to meet the demands of the job safely and effectively.
- This position may require a post job-offer or return-to-work functional capacity evaluation by a certified provider to ensure the ability to perform essential job functions safely.
