Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician PRN contributes to the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic milieu through prompt reporting of observed behavior, milieu processes, and other pertinent information. This role requires direct care, observation, and communication with patients to collect and document behavioral and physical clinical data and observations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform vital signs, BPs, and accuchecks, reporting abnormalities to Registered Nurses as per protocol.
  • Provide or assist patients with Activities of Daily Living and assist with treatments or procedures within documented levels of competency.
  • Lead groups with patient populations, providing behavioral health care interventions utilizing the least restrictive approaches.
  • Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff by completing routine and special safety checks.
  • Act as sitters for behavioral health patients and have flexibility to assist on other floors with sitting for behavioral health patients, adhering to employees' job descriptions and practices.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School Diploma or GED, with either enrollment in a Bachelor's level program or six months of previous psychiatric experience.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related field (preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider certification (required).
  • Previous 6 months of experience in an acute care adult, geriatric, or child/adolescent behavioral health setting, which can be achieved through an internship. Alternatively, successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related field can substitute for six months of experience.
  • One year of experience in an acute care adult, geriatric, or child/adolescent behavioral health setting. Medical care technician experience is preferred.
