Design Drafter

R.S. Hughes Company, Inc. is a leading provider of innovative solutions for our customers. We are seeking a highly skilled Design Drafter to join our team in the Saunders Engineering Department.

The Design Drafter will collaborate with various departments and customers to take design requirements from scratch to completion of the drawing stage. This role will create and modify designs based on inputs such as existing drawings, concepts, specifications, and customer requirements.

• Analyze client component designs and execute CAD drawings to meet desired application requirements.
• Translate client design requirements to CAD drawings through innovative and reliable design methods.
• Participate in the development and manufacture of prototype client designs, refining and testing for manufacturability, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and profitability.
• Engage with the sales and production teams on new applications to ensure design and drawings for manufacturability and tooling are efficient and capable production methods and processes.
• Support manufacturing processes via CAD drawings by designing and researching best practices, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, and assembly processes, tooling, and fixturing design and applications, materials, and quality control standards.
• Assure product and process quality through the development and implementation of design and engineering principles.
• Collaborate with the sales and production teams and other personnel to tackle procedural and quality issues related to the drawing and design of goods.
• Coordinate and actively participate in project meetings, documenting decisions, and facilitating regular updates to internal and external stakeholders regarding project, drawing, and design status.
• Build and maintain expertise in industry trends and best practices, leveraging knowledge to improve manufacturing engineering and design review to drive innovation.
• Assist with the evaluation of defective materials received from vendors along with customers, then communicate feedback as needed and translate design drawing changes as required.
• Support periodic review/audit of work practices comparative to documented procedures and report to supervisor deviations.

• Associate's degree in mechanical drafting or related field.
• 2+ years of CAD drafting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Solid understanding in design for manufacturing methodology and practical experience in application.
• Proficient in Windows Microsoft Office, manufacturing ERP systems, and Auto-CAD (2D/3D).
