About the Role

Erie Neighborhood House is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Toddler Teacher to join our NAEYC accredited Childcare Program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the classroom team in the education, care, and development of our young children, following DCFS licensing, Early Head Start, and NAEYC standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) to create and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate lesson plans for the classroom
  • Provide discipline and feedback performance review for the Assistant Teacher, working closely with the Site Director
  • Complete all developmental and social emotional screenings in accordance with Early Head Start timelines
  • Assume primary care responsibilities for four children in the classroom, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being
  • Welcome children and parents into the classroom, developing positive relationships and promoting a sense of community
  • Promote recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children, families, and staff in the classroom
  • Use active supervision techniques to supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety and engagement
  • Act as an ambassador for the Erie Neighborhood House Child Care program, representing our organization with integrity and professionalism
  • Participate in recruitment of children and families for Erie House programs, helping to grow our community
  • Assume Director Designee responsibilities as assigned, taking on additional leadership roles within the program
  • Open and close the classroom for the day as assigned, ensuring a smooth transition for children and staff
  • Remain in the classroom to supervise children whose parents pick up late, providing additional support as needed
  • Input child observations into My Teaching Strategies on a weekly basis, tracking progress and identifying areas for growth
  • Complete My Teaching Strategies checkpoints according to the education timeline, ensuring compliance with program standards
  • Complete two home visits per child per year, according to the education timeline, fostering strong relationships with families
  • Meet with Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) on a monthly basis, providing supervision and support, and discussing classroom concerns
  • Meet with Family Advocate(s) quarterly, discussing strengths and needs of families, and identifying opportunities for support
  • Participate in transition meetings, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities and information
  • Assure compliance with all Early Head Start performance standards, maintaining the highest level of quality and care
  • Maintain current Illinois Gateways Registry membership, staying up-to-date with industry best practices
  • Maintain five hours of Gateways-approved training per program year, enhancing your skills and knowledge
  • Complete 20 hours of professional development training per program year, staying current with industry trends and research
  • Responsible for the program complying with Erie, the Board of Education, and all State licensing requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completing a bi-annual physical exam, complying with the Confidentiality and Child Abuse and Neglect Act as a mandated reporter, as well as the American with Disabilities Act and Erie's Inclusion Policy
  • Other duties as assigned, supporting the overall mission and goals of Erie Neighborhood House
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field
  • Must obtain a Level 4 Gateway Credential by 2024, demonstrating expertise and commitment to the field
  • 2-3 years' experience working in a nursery or licensed daycare, with a proven track record of success
  • Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods, with physical stamina to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse families and staff
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with physical constraints required for evacuation of the building during emergencies
  • Demonstrates self-motivation, self-direction, and a commitment to following directions, making good judgments, and being creative, reliable, and dependable
  • Exhibits a sincere interest in working with children, with knowledge of children's development and growth
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S., with the ability to complete all necessary forms and background checks
